Rika Shimabukuro

My degree project is adopted from an idea about Japanese traditional culture into interior and space. I use room dividers and lamps which are everyday objects, but these products breathe life into space in a poetic way. They are also meditational objects for keeping the mind balanced.

The Japanese rock garden “Karesansui” is also utilized as a tool in my work to represent asymmetry and negative space. Karesansui has every element of Japanese culture I want to express such as culture, idea, soul and logic.

I expect the user will find a significant reason for them from using my work every day.
