The negative glass plates were carefully wrapped in thin paper, put placed into envelopes and placed in drawers. I can experience the existing pictures, but there is no story behind them. Their history is “empty”, as there is nobody left who can explain about these pictures that I am bringing out of their hiding places.
How did people use to show each other these pictures, and how do they do so today? How will people document things in future?
In my design work I wish to present pictures in a new context, allowing observers to create their own story. I am integrating my artistic side with my scientific work – investigating how people explain and recall things on the basis of family pictures. My essay is available as part of the exhibition.
