WIRE - write+interpret+research+exhibit
Master in critical writing and curatorial practice offered by the Departments of Fine Art and Interdisciplinary Studies.
WIRE is an interdisciplinary Master's Group which develops and strengthens the students' understanding and practice of critical writing and organizing exhibitions in the fields of art, crafts and design. Just as artistic practices have become increasingly interdisciplinary, the roles of the curator and critic have changed and new places to present art have emerged alongside the established, and still important, publishers, galleries and museums. In this respect, WIRE promotes inventive responses to recent changes in visual culture and critical practice.
Students collaborate between disciplines and cross others, advancing their own abilities as critics or curators. We use a broad definition of art, crafts and design informed by history, criticism and theory. This program prepares students for positions in cultural institutions, scholarship and research, journalism and publishing.
This is the first class to graduate and the four students have produced individual projects. Three of these are presented at institutions in Stockholm: Färgfabriken, Index The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation and Stockholm City Museum (Stockholms Stadsmuseum). The work of one of our graduating students is an independent publishing project. During the Konstfack Degree Exhibition 2009, WIRE will present these four final-year projects alongside a showcase of the works made throughout the course as a whole.
