What are my actual needs?

The answer for me goes without saying, but outside my head I hit on problems. I live in a democratic welfare state with laws and ordinances created to satisfy the needs of its citizens, including myself, but if the needs society has created and maintains are not the same as mine – what do I do then?

The perception that homelessness is not something you choose but something that happens to you is a common one. Does this mean that homelessness is a consequence of unsatisfied needs? Which individuals and which needs are actually accommodated in our democratic welfare state? Does everyone have access to the town and the surrounding countryside? What actually defines a home and a dwelling?

I pack my rucksack and set off into a society that has made itself dependent on its own welfare in order to see whether I can make myself free.
